Instrumental

Instrumental: with whom? with what? - Narzędnik: z kim? z czym?

Instrumental case is used in the following situations:

- when we talk about the instrument or the tool

e.g. I clean the table with the sponge: wycieram stół s cierką.

- when we talk about the company

e.g. I am with Anna: jestem z Anną.

In this case we will use the preposition "z" which means "with".

- as predicative of the verb to be (być ) and to become (zostać)

e.g. I am a student: Jestem studentem.

es. He became a criminal: Został przestępcą.

- With some prepositions:

• before (przed), .g. Wash your hands before dinner: umyj ręce przed kolacją.
• above (nad), e.g. The lamp is above the table: lampa wisi nad stołem.
• behund (za), es. I stay in a line behind an old lady: stoję w kolejce za starszą kobietą.
• under/below (pod), e.g. The cat is under the chair: kot jest pod krzesłem.
• between (między), e.g. My house is between the church and the school: mój dom jest między kościołem a szkołą.

- After some verbs:

• drive (kierować), e.g. I drive a truck: kieruję ciężarówką.
• to rule (władać), e.g. Elizabeth queen ruled Great Britain: Królowa Elżbieta II władaWielką Brytanią.
• to be interested in (interesować się), e.g. I am interested in animation films: interesuję się filmami animowanymi.
• to be busy doing something (zajmować się), es. My brother is busy selling insurance policies: mój brat zajmuje się sprzedażą ubezpieczeń.

In order to form the instrumental case, I need to add the ending to the basic form (nominative), depending if I want to declinate a noun or an adjective.

Singular Instrumental Case

Masculine	-ym -im (if the adjective ends with -k or -g)	-em -iem (if the noun ends with -k or -g) -ą (rare, as it is not common when a masculine name ends with -a)
Femminine	-ą	-ą
Neutral	-ym -im (if the adjective ends with -k or -g)	-em -iem (if the noun ends with -k or -g)

Plural Instrumental Case
